The Thu Thiem New Urban Area is facing a new opportunity: to become the driving force and leverage to propel Ho Chi Minh City's development to a new level. Located in a prime location that not every city can boast, Thu Thiem is gradually transforming, improving both its infrastructure and transportation to become a new political, cultural, and social center of the city.
In less than a month, the Ben Thanh - Thu Thiem Metro line will officially begin construction in the Thu Thiem New Urban Area. Approximately two months later, the Thu Thiem - Long Thanh Metro line will also begin construction.
These metro lines not only contribute to completing Ho Chi Minh City's urban rail network but also drive stronger eastward development of transportation in the new Thu Thiem urban area. Experts assess that the urgent implementation of these two metro lines demonstrates Thu Thiem's crucial connectivity with other areas.
Mr. Ngo Anh Vu, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Institute of Construction Planning, assessed: "It's like a unified command that we must all act upon; once the button is pressed, everything will move. It requires the efforts of investors, the efforts of state management agencies, and, as we often say, the entire political apparatus must get involved. We expect it to progress faster than before."
In addition to the Metro lines, a series of large-scale projects have been and are being implemented simultaneously, connecting the Thu Thiem New Urban Area with the city center and other locations such as Thu Thiem 4 Bridge, the International Financial Center, the pedestrian bridge over the Saigon River, the City Children's Palace, and the modern Political-Administrative Center, which is expected to serve approximately 1,500 to 2,000 people and businesses daily through a one-stop system. These factors will be the best invitation for investors to participate in developing and completing the infrastructure for Thu Thiem.
"There will be many investors who will invest systematically, and the city must invest very focusedly in infrastructure, creating a magnet that attracts and satisfies an entire ecosystem of public spaces, economy, culture, politics, and administration," said Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Hieu from the Vietnamese-German University.
The Thu Thiem New Urban Area is at a pivotal moment. As the final obstacles are gradually removed, the opportunities are clearer than ever. For Ho Chi Minh City, Thu Thiem is more than just an urban area. It is the biggest test of its ability to create a new, modern, equitable, and livable center.
