On December 26, 2025, UnionPay International announced the addition of 11 overseas partner wallets to support scanning WeChat Pay QR codes in China. These include major local wallets such as KB Pay (South Korea), ICBC Pay (Singapore), BCEL One (Laos), Social Pay (Mongolia), and PayZe Wallet (New Zealand). To date, a total of 25 overseas UnionPay partner wallets have enabled this feature, serving UnionPay users in 11 countries and regions worldwide.
Since UnionPay International and WeChat Pay reached a cooperation agreement in December 2024, the related services have undergone three rounds of expansion. The first batch of eight partner wallets covered Hong Kong, South Korea, Thailand, and Malaysia; in May 2025, six more wallets were added, extending the service to Macau, Cambodia, and New Zealand; and the eleven new wallets added this time will further expand to Singapore, Laos, Mongolia, and other countries. In the second half of 2025, the number of related transactions increased by nearly 70% compared to the first half of the year, and market acceptance has significantly improved.
When overseas users use this service, they only need to bind a locally issued UnionPay physical card or activate the UnionPay digital card issuance function in their partner wallet to conveniently pay by scanning a WeChat Pay QR code within China. During the payment process, the system automatically converts the local currency to RMB, requiring no additional action from the user. This model aligns with the local payment habits familiar to overseas users, allowing foreigners visiting China to "pay like a local."
This collaboration represents another significant step in UnionPay's "Splendid Action" initiative to enhance payment convenience for foreign nationals visiting China. With the rapid development of the payment industry, UnionPay has innovatively launched a new "Four-Party Model," incorporating "general account holders" into its ecosystem. Leveraging its comprehensive "card, code, and Pay" product solutions, UnionPay collaborates with various parties to continuously optimize the payment environment for overseas visitors to China, becoming an innovative example of collaborative win-win cooperation within the payment industry and serving the country's high-level opening-up. Currently, UnionPay has issued over 200 million cards overseas and partnered with over 200 wallets, with related payment products universally accepted across the UnionPay global acceptance network.
