The year 2025 marks a significant turning point in the development of Bac Ninh province as Bac Giang and Bac Ninh provinces are merged to form a new Bac Ninh province with 99 commune-level administrative units. This event not only expands the administrative boundaries but also creates a larger development space, connecting the potential and advantages of the two localities, forming a foundation for strong development in the coming period.
Amidst the continuing complex developments in the world and the region, and the unpredictable factors impacting the domestic economy, Bac Ninh province also faces numerous difficulties and challenges. In particular, Typhoon No. 11 caused a historic flood, damaging many infrastructure projects and resulting in significant losses of people's property and local budget.
However, amidst the difficulties, the spirit of solidarity and mutual support within the community continues to be strongly demonstrated. Many organizations and individuals have joined hands to support people in areas affected by natural disasters, helping them to quickly overcome the consequences, stabilize their lives, and restore production.
Despite these difficulties, Bac Ninh has maintained its positive development momentum. By 2025, the province's GRDP is estimated to increase by 10.27%, placing it among the localities with high growth rates nationwide. GRDP per capita is projected to reach US$5,852, higher than the national average.
The economic structure continues to shift in the right direction, with industry and construction playing a leading role, accounting for over 71% of the economic structure. Industry continues to be the main driving force for growth, with the presence of many large corporations in the electronics and high-tech sectors.
Industry is the main driver of growth in Bac Ninh.
Currently, investment projects in Bac Ninh come from 42 countries and territories, mainly focusing on the fields of electronic component manufacturing, machinery, logistics, and industrial real estate. Large corporations such as Samsung, Foxconn, and Luxshare continue to expand their production activities in the locality, contributing to making Bac Ninh one of the major electronics manufacturing centers in the region.
By 2025, the province's industrial production value is projected to exceed 2.4 trillion VND. Total import and export turnover is expected to reach 182 billion USD, accounting for approximately 20% of the country's total export turnover, affirming Bac Ninh's important role in the global manufacturing supply chain.
In addition to focusing on industrial development, the province also prioritizes sustainable agricultural development, applying science and technology and expanding production along the value chain.
Along with economic development, cultural and social fields continue to receive investment and attention. The Yen Tu - Vinh Nghiem - Con Son - Kiet Bac complex of historical sites has been recognized by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage site, while Dong Ho folk painting has been inscribed on the list of intangible cultural heritage in need of urgent protection. Currently, Bac Ninh has 8 UNESCO-recognized heritage sites, contributing to affirming the unique cultural values of the Kinh Bac region.
Notably, the province is strongly orienting its development towards high-tech sectors, especially semiconductor and artificial intelligence industries – sectors considered to be new drivers of economic growth in the future.
At the Industrial Technical College, a Semiconductor, AI, and New Energy Training Center has been established in collaboration with businesses. Mr. Tran Dong, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Haizhichen Vietnam Artificial Intelligence Co., Ltd., stated: "Businesses will cooperate with the college in training and research in fields such as semiconductors, AI, and new energy to cultivate high-quality human resources to serve businesses."
Simultaneously, the province is implementing various policies to attract major universities to invest locally, thereby forming a large-scale training and scientific research center. According to the plan, Bac Ninh will provide approximately 720 billion VND to attract major universities such as Hanoi Medical University, Foreign Trade University, University of Natural Resources and Environment, and a training facility of the Polytechnic University to invest in construction in the province. This is considered an important step towards forming a high-tech training-research-production ecosystem, creating a foundation for sustainable development for the province in the coming period.
The first Party Congress of Bac Ninh province for the 2025-2030 term clearly defined development goals: to transform Bac Ninh into a centrally-governed city before 2030, and to build the province into a green, civilized, modern urban area with a strong Kinh Bac cultural identity by 2045. 2026 is identified as a pivotal year in this new development phase. The province aims for a GRDP growth rate of 12.5 to 13%, laying the foundation for maintaining double-digit growth throughout the period.
With a solid foundation for development, coupled with the innovative spirit and strong determination of the entire political system, Bac Ninh is gradually asserting its role as an important growth pole of the Capital region, aiming for rapid and sustainable development in the new phase.
