iPhone storage runs out and it breaks down? Apple customer service: It will affect system stability.

Recently, topics such as "Never use up all the storage space on your iPhone" and "iPhone will break if the memory is used up" have attracted a lot of attention from netizens on social media platforms.

Some iPhone users have found that their phones unexpectedly shut down after running out of storage space, and flashing the firmware results in error 1110. Other users report that this may trigger a chain reaction, such as a sudden drop in read/write speeds, severe phone lag, overheating, and even black screens with spinning wheels or frequent app crashes.

On December 19, Jiemian News contacted Apple regarding this matter. A customer service representative stated that when an iPhone runs out of storage space, it's unpredictable whether it will crash, but the system may experience lag or other issues. To ensure smooth and stable operation of the iPhone system, at least 1GB of storage space is required. If this amount is insufficient, users are advised to proactively delete some space-consuming apps and download them back later when needed.

However, the iPhone itself will not proactively pop up a reminder to prompt users to clear storage space. Users can check the storage space usage themselves and uninstall apps that have not been used for a long time.

The staff member also emphasized that when storage space is almost depleted, it can also cause battery issues. As battery health declines, device temperature rises, both of which can slow down phone performance. He suggests users pay close attention to their phone's battery health. If the maximum capacity is below 80%, and the phone is used frequently and charged more than twice a day, battery replacement should be considered. The specific decision should be based on individual usage patterns.

If your phone fails to boot due to insufficient storage space, Apple customer service suggests connecting it to a computer to back up your data first. After backing up, you can then perform other operations, including deleting data or restoring factory settings. If the device can still boot normally, you should immediately clear photos and infrequently used apps to free up space.

Currently, the main models sold on Apple's official website generally start with 256GB of storage, with the iPhone 17 Pro Max offering up to 2TB. However, even so, many people still feel it's not enough, as the growth rate of user data needs far exceeds the pace of upgrades in phone storage capacity.

According to a report by the Economic Daily, a survey on consumer mobile phone usage showed that 27.8% of consumers had used more than 80% of their mobile phone storage space, while 63% of consumers had anxiety about mobile phone storage.

WeChat chat history is typically a major consumer of phone storage space, sometimes exceeding 100GB. Some large mobile games, such as Genshin Impact, can take up nearly 30GB. Photos, music, and movies also consume significant amounts of space. While updates to the mobile operating system bring more features, they also increase storage requirements.

If there is no need to upgrade the phone, professionals recommend that users develop the habit of regularly cleaning up their phone's storage and promptly syncing large files such as photos and videos to the cloud to free up local space.
