Currently, the U.S. government is actively placing employees with artificial intelligence (AI) expertise in federal agencies.

According to a senior Trump administration official on Tuesday (December 23), approximately 25,000 people have expressed interest in joining the Trump administration's engineering team, known as the Tech Force.

In a post, Scott Kupor, director of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, wrote that the Trump administration would use the list to recruit people for software, data engineering, and other technical positions.

These interested candidates will reportedly compete for the first 1,000 spots on the Tech Force team. Kupor previously stated that the newly recruited AI personnel will work on technology projects within federal agencies for two years, including government departments such as the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and the Department of Justice.

Trump's AI ambitions

In mid-month, the Trump administration announced this new initiative called the US Tech Force, whose members will work on AI infrastructure and other technology projects across the federal government.

The formation of this technology team indicates that the Trump administration is also increasing its focus on developing American infrastructure as it vies for dominance in this rapidly growing industry (AI).

This hiring program is seen as part of the Trump administration's artificial intelligence agenda. While President Trump worked to cut government jobs in the early months of his second term, he made exceptions for positions deemed essential to maintaining "national security," making the establishment of the Tech Force an exception to this wave of layoffs.

Previously, several U.S. presidents, including Biden, had launched similar initiatives aimed at bringing more technical talent into government departments.
