On Tuesday local time, Russian President Vladimir Putin met with U.S. special envoy Joshua Witkov and Trump's son-in-law and informal advisor Jared Kushner in Moscow to discuss the Russia-Ukraine peace plan.
According to reports from CCTV News and other media outlets, US President Trump commented on the meeting on the 3rd local time. He stated that the meeting between US special envoys Witkov and Kushner and Russian President Putin was "quite good."
Trump said he spoke with Witkov and Kushner Tuesday night. “I can tell you they had a pretty good meeting with President Putin. Let’s wait and see,” he said.
However, Trump said he could not disclose the outcome of the US-Russia talks, as it required joint efforts from both sides.
Trump also stated that Putin wants to end the conflict .
“He (Putin) wants to end this war. That’s their impression… They feel very strongly that he intends to reach a deal,” Trump told reporters at the White House. The “they” Trump referred to were his special envoy Witkov and his son-in-law Kushner.
Trump reiterated that if he had been president, the Russia-Ukraine war would not have broken out.
Earlier on the 3rd, a White House official said that the US and Russia held a deep and productive meeting .
Following a nearly five-hour meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. special envoys Joshua Witkov and Jared Kushner on March 2, the Russian side stated that the talks with the U.S. were productive, but no compromise was reached to resolve the Ukraine issue .
Dmitriev, CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, who participated in the talks, posted on social media after the talks concluded in the early hours of March 3, Moscow time, that the talks with US special envoys Witkov and Kushner were "productive."
Subsequently, Russian Presidential Aide Ushakov further stated that the talks between Russian President Putin and US Presidential Special Envoy Witkov were constructive, highly beneficial, and substantive. The talks discussed territorial issues, but Russia and the US agreed not to disclose the content of the discussions.
Ushakov also stated that there is currently no compromise solution to the Ukraine issue; Russia can accept some of the proposals put forward by the United States, while others are not suitable for adoption.
Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov confirmed in a briefing on December 3 that the Russia-US talks held on December 2 were the first direct exchange of views between the two sides on the "peace plan," with some points accepted and others marked as unacceptable. He addressed Western media interpretations that "Putin effectively rejected the 'peace plan,'" stating that such claims are incorrect.
Peskov also emphasized that the Russia-US negotiations should ideally be conducted in silence, and expressed his hope that the US would also refrain from disseminating details of the negotiations on the Ukraine issue, just as Russia had done.
On November 20, the White House's draft of a 28-point peace plan for Russia and Ukraine was revealed, a plan that Ukraine and Europe considered biased towards Russia. On November 23, representatives from the US, Ukraine, and Europe held talks in Geneva, Switzerland, and made significant revisions to the plan, but the details of these revisions were not released. Prior to the talks, Putin stated that Russia could not accept any modifications Europe attempted to make to the US-proposed peace plan for Russia and Ukraine.
